Bill and Don’s Excellent Adventure

What’s better than one geezer exploring the treasures of British Columbia’s spectacular coast line? Two geezers.
P1030971Refusing to glide gracefully into old age, my “old” (in both senses of the word) friend Bill and I are reliving the glories of our youth by recreating (approximately) a road trip from 28 years ago, sans “babes” and backpacking.

After two days in Port Angeles on the northern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, featuring a soggy hike on the Dungeness Spit, P1030944 P1030946 P1030949we headed to Quadra Island, a short ferry ride from Campbell River off the east coast of Vancouver Island. For five days we ate, drank, hiked and “tummeled” (Yiddish for making lots of joyful noise) with Ellis and Candy, old (not as old as us, though) friends of Bill’s from the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania who have found refuge in the friendlier climes of Canada (for 6 months/year).P1040016

We also did a one day kayaking tour from Discovery Islands Lodge through Surge Narrows Park off the Northern tip of Quadra .P1040067P1040071P1040087 P1040080 P1040078 P1040076 P1040065 P1040064 P1040062 P1040061 P1040059 P1040045 P1040047 P1040039 P1040033

We had a couple of eating adventures, one that involved a boat ride to the restaurant,P1030996P1040004 P1040002 P1030998and another, all you can eat Dungeness crab (photos by Candy Young-Valentine).IMG_9016IMG_9015We are now in Vancouver staying with my friends, Hamish and Sheila, who I met on a kayaking trip in BC about 12-13 years ago. The following photos are from the ferry ride from Nanaimo on Vancouver island to Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver.P1040139 P1040135 P1040124 P1040111 P1040106 P1040105 P1040101 P1040097 P1040096

Today its off to Vancouver for some urban adventures, featuring, of course, lots of eating. Stay tuned….
