Birthday Brunch in Bangkok

Well, it was more like lunch but “lunch” wouldn’t have sounded as good in the title.

download_005After our meeting this morning Thip took me out for my birthday. Don’t ask me the name of the place since their business card was in Thai only. I can tell you that it was in the new, modern shopping center, “The Nine,” on Rama IX Rd.

The restaurant specializes in Southern Thai cuisine. For those of you from LA, that’s the same cuisine served in the much lauded Jitlada Restaurant in Hollywood, Jonathan Gold’s favorite Thai restaurant and the restaurant that was the subject of a lengthy article in the New Yorker some time ago As much as I like Jitlada, this place was even better.

Sorry that I can’t give you any more info, but at least I can show you photos of the other dishes we ate. The photos were taken by Thip on her smartphone — I was too busy eating. It looks to me like she took photos of the photos in the menu, probably because they had descriptions in English. In any case, I am posting them full size for maximum effect.
